Glossary of Terms

The following terms are found throughout this issue of COLUMNS - Mold. The definitions are from the 1995 edition of Mirriam-Webster's Medical Dictionary unless otherwise stated.

adenoid hypertrophy: excessive development of the enlarged mass of lymphoid tissue at the back of the pharynx

aflatoxin: any of several carcinogenic mycotoxins that are produced esp. in stored agricultural crops by molds

allergic rhinitis: inflammation of the mucous membrane of the nose subject to an allergic reaction anaphylaxis: hypersensitivity (as to foreign proteins or drugs) resulting from sensitization following prior contact with the causative agent
