N.C. Appellate Court Finds for IBM on Employee's Appeal

RALEIGH, N.C. - North Carolina's Court of Appeals has dismissed on procedural grounds an IBM employee's appeal of an order denying worker's compensation benefits for a mold-related claim. Ord v. IBM, et al., No. COA06-1318 (N.C. Ct. App.).

In a concurring opinion also issued on July 3, one appellate judge urged the court to allow the appeal by pro se appellant Julie Ord and dismiss her appeal on the merits.

Ord sought benefits from Liberty Mutual Insurance Co., IBM's worker's compensation carrier, alleging that she suffered a work-related illness from exposure to mold while working as a financial analyst for …
