District Court Judge Upholds $32 Million Jury Award in Ballard Case

AUSTIN, Texas - A Travis County District Judge has upheld a $32 million verdict awarded in June to a Texas woman who claimed that her insurer acted in bad faith when it handled her mold-related insurance claim. Ballard v. Fire Insurance Exchange, A Member of the Farmers Insurance Group, No. 99-05252 (Texas Dist. Ct. 345th Jud. Dist., Travis Cty.)

By order signed Oct. 30, Travis County District Court Judge John Dietz rendered a judgment in favor of plaintiff Melinda Ballard for the full $32 million in actual damages, attorney's fees, and additional damages assessed against defendant Fire Insurance Exchange.
