Article: "Metabolism of Afloxin B1 by Normal Human Bronchial Epithelial Cells"

Summary: Aflatoxin B (AFB1) is suspected to be a carcinogen in humans, and is known to be a hepatocarcinogen in animal models. High concentrations have been found in respirable grain dusts. The authors studied the potential for AFB activation in the human lung. Their study data supports earlier findings that exposure to polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons may increase the harmful effects of AFB1 exposures in human airways.
