NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans homeowners have filed a class action against Certain Underwriters at Lloyd's of London, alleging that the carrier's claims practices have illegally delayed or limited payments from Hurricane Katrina, resulting in mold and other additional damage to the insured homes. Charbonnet v. Certain Underwriters at Lloyds London, et al., No. 06-6570 'D-14' (La. Dist. Ct., Orleans Parish).
The plaintiff homeowners are also seeking damages against Louisiana insurance broker Burns & Wilcox, alleging that they were deceived into unnecessarily purchasing coverage from a surplus lines insurer whose policies would not be guaranteed by the state's Insurance Guaranty …
