Summary: The goal of this pilot study was to quantify the proportion of toxigenic Aspergillus versicolor isolates in native carpet dust from damp dwellings with mold problems and determine whether the mycotoxin sterigmatocystin can be detected in this matrix. The researchers tested 11 carpet dust samples. They found that 49 of 50 A. versicolor isolates (98 percent) detected in the samples were toxigenic in vitro.
