University Lodge Tenants Fight for Utilities, Hot Water While Looking for Replacement Housing

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - On Sept. 19, tenants, counsel and housing council members met to discuss the location of long-term replacement housing for the occupants of University Lodge, a moldy, defect-ridden single-room occupancy hotel destined to be condemned. Lamar Shufford, et al. v. Sam Menlo, et al., No. RIC 377645 (Calif. Super. Ct., Riverside Cty.).
Tenant representatives met with their counsel, Sandra B. Norman and Denise Meenan of Inland Counties Legal Services in Riverside, Calif., and representatives of the Fair Housing Council of Riverside, to locate appropriate housing.
