SUMMARY: A nine-member physician panel was convened to review the Institute of Medicine's report, "Damp Indoor Spaces and Health," which was released in May 2004. The review panel was composed of physicians with specialties in Pediatric Allergy & Immunology, General Allergy & Immunology, Pediatric Pulmonology, Internal Medicine, Dermatology, Otolaryngology, and Neurology. The panel welcomed the recognition that a multiplicity of factors complicates identification of a cause-and-effect relationship, and agreed that further research would be helpful to identify the prevalence of particular strains of bacteria.
