AIHA Issues Guidelines on Mold Assessment, Remediation

FAIRFAX, Va. - The American Industrial Hygiene Association issued its 15-page guidelines on Sept. 7 outlining minimum qualifications and procedures for mold assessment and remediation.
The 'Assessment, Remediation, and Post-Remediation Verification of Mold in Buildings' guidelines were developed by consensus by members of AIHA's Biosafety, Environmental Microbiology, Indoor Environmental Quality and Law committees.
Besides offering guidance on qualifications, the guidelines offer the recommendation that responses to complex mold assessments be multi-disciplinary and encompass experts in exposure, heating, building science, law and other areas. A spokeswoman said the association is still developing guidance on that topic.
