Letter to the Editor....and Response

I was very disappointed in Dr. Spurgeon's article ("Sampling carpets and soft surfaces for fungal contaminants") in the December 2003 issue of COLUMNS-Mold. With the current state of the science of mold in buildings, one thing we should definitely try to avoid is unsupported and potentially misleading information. Let me list my concerns with his article:

1. Of the two sampling methods suggested in his article, the first is widely used and well documented throughout the industry. I have been involved in the indoor air quality business for 23 years and mold investigations for seven years …
