Behr Settles Washington Claims For $55M; National Cases Settle For $107.5M Re: Wood Sealants Alleged to Promote Mildew

MONTESANO, Wash. - Consumers from the State of Washington are eligible to participate in a $55 million settlement to compensate them for mildew damage allegedly caused or promoted by several exterior wood sealant products manufactured by Behr Process Corporation. Smith, et al. v. Behr Process Corporation, No. 98-2-00635-4 (Wash. Super. Ct., Grays Harbor Cty.).
The settlement agreement was reached Dec. 13, 2002, approximately six weeks after a national settlement agreement of $107.5 million was reached for similar claims concerning two wood sealant products also manufactured by Behr.
