Breakdown of Mold-Related Insurance Claims by State

Last year, we presented an accounting of first party mold claims submitted to insurance companies all over the country, tracked by Policyholders of America (POA), a non-profit association of policyholders founded in 2002 by Melinda Ballard. She began charting and documenting such claims in 1999. To be included in the database, Ballard states that the claim must be a first party homeowners' insurance, toxic mold-related claim.
According to Ballard, no mold-related commercial claims were reported to POA in 2001, but 5,016 commercial claims were reported in 2002. Mold claims related to commercial properties are not included in the numbers …
