Texas Courts Deny School Board's Efforts to Dismiss Ex-Teacher's Mold Claims

GALVESTON, Texas - A Texas appellate court has affirmed that a fired Head Start teacher did enough to initiate an administrative claim over alleged mold exposure to allow her to pursue a related action under the state's Whistleblower Act. Hitchcock Independent School District v. Walker, No. 01-10-00669-CV (Texas 1st Dist. Ct. App.).
The Court of Appeals for the First District on Dec. 16 affirmed a decision by the Galveston County 405th District Court allowing Doreatha Walker to pursue a whistleblower lawsuit against her former employer, Hitchcock Independent School District.
Walker was formerly director of Hitchcock's Head Start proram.
