POINT-A-LA-HACHE, La. - On April 17, two inmates of the Plaquemines Parish Detention Center in Louisiana filed a class action petition for alleged damages stemming from exposure to mold within the detention facility. Richard T. Reed and Eric J. Buras v. I.F. Hingle, Sheriff of the Parish of Plaquemines and XYZ Insurance Co., No. 48-528 (La. Dist. Ct., Plaquemines Parish).

The inmates allege that since at least October 2001 they and the more than 100 detainees that typically inhabit the facility each day, along with their visitors, have been exposed to 'toxic molds,' including but not limited to Stachybotrys.
