Pharmaceutical Worker Prevails on Claim of Mold-Induced Asthma

HARTFORD - A man who claims to have developed mold-induced asthma from his work as a chemical operator at a pharmaceutical company is entitled to workers' compensation benefits for an occupational disease, the Connecticut Appellate Court has affirmed. Chappell v. Pfizer, Inc., et al., No. AC 29442 (Conn. App. Ct.).

The court concluded July 21 that asthma is an occupational disease for plaintiff Ronald C. Chappell, and that his claim was timely filed.

Chappell was an employee of Pfizer Inc. from 1996 to 1992. He worked as a chemical operator, cleaning fermentation tanks, until 1981, and contends that he was …
