BALTIMORE –– A county in Maryland has filed a water contamination lawsuit against a number of defendants, accusing them of manufacturing and distributing PFAS into local groundwater and contributing to a “serious environmental and public health crisis.”

Charles County, Maryland filed the lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland on Jan. 23.

In it, the plaintiff says that per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are present in the Charles County water systems and natural resources. Exposure to these substances can cause cancer, liver, thyroid, kidney disease and more, the plaintiff says.
