Missouri Court Denies J&J’s Post-Trial Motions in Talcum Powder Case that Ended in $55 Million Verdict; Defendant Appeals

ST. LOUIS –– The Missouri court that oversaw a talc-based powder trial that ended in a $55 million verdict has denied Johnson & Johnson’s post-trial motions, according to a recent order, rejecting the defendants’ requests for a judgment notwithstanding the verdict or for a new trial.
In a Sept. 9 order, the Missouri 22nd Judicial Circuit Court for St. Louis City also denied the defendants’ alternative motions for remittitur of compensatory damages, remittitur of punitive damages, to amend the judgment to reduce unconstitutionally excessive punitive damage and to amend the judgment, according to the court’s online docket.
