Louisiana Federal Court Grants Plaintiff Motion to Dismiss Management Company in Talc Case

NEW ORLEANS –– A Louisiana federal court has dismissed Rio Tinto Minerals Inc. from a talc-based powder exposure lawsuit with prejudice, granting a motion filed by the plaintiff, in which she indicated that the defendant had not mined or manufactured anything.

The U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana entered the order on May 19.

In her complaint, Paula Jackson said that she applied Johnson & Johnson-brand Shower-to-Shower and Baby Powder to her perineum daily from 1974 until 2015, when she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Jackson argued that the defendants ignored nearly 40 years of published scientific …
