CAMDEN, N.J. — An insured’s failure to submit a signed proof of loss to his flood insurer defeats his challenge for additional Superstorm Sandy damage coverage, a New Jersey federal judge has ruled, explaining that it violates the terms of the Standard Flood Insurance Policy.
In a March 1 order, Judge Robert B. Kugler of the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey explained that in order to qualify for benefits under the SFIP, an insured must comply with all of the SFIP’s terms and conditions.
