Texas Appellate Court Upholds $388,698 Verdict in Hurricane Ike Coverage Action

BEAUMONT, Texas — A Texas appellate court has upheld a 2013 jury verdict awarding the plaintiffs in a Hurricane Ike property damage coverage dispute $388,698, ruling that the evidence supported the jury’s finding that the insurer improperly handled the couple’s claim.
On Oct. 20, the Texas Court of Appeals, Ninth District, also rejected National Security Fire & Casualty Co.’s arguments that the plaintiffs lacked standing to file the action and that the evidence did not support the jury’s award of attorneys’ fees.
