NEW YORK — A federal magistrate judge has denied a motion to compel discovery of information about Superstorm Sandy losses that occurred within five miles of a residence owned by a New York plaintiff who sued Fireman’s Fund Insurance Co. after it refused to cover his sewer back-up claim.

Judge Steven M. Gold denied the motion in a Jan. 9 minute order issued after a hearing in which he indicated that the production of such information, including whether similar Sandy claims filed by nearby residence were approved by the insurer, would be of little relevance to the instant claim.
