JAMAICA, N.Y. — A Long Island, N.Y., couple whose home was destroyed by an electrical fire during Superstorm Sandy may proceed with their claim against a power utility that they say negligently failed to de-energize the area prior to the storm, a judge has ruled.
Queens County Justice Bernice D. Siegal granted a motion Oct. 31 to permit plaintiffs in a case against Long Island Power Authority to serve and file a late notice of claim in the case, despite undisputed evidence that the plaintiffs failed to serve a timely notice on the utility.
