NEW YORK — Owners of a Fire Island, N.Y., vacation rental property that was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy have sued the New York Property Insurance Underwriting Association for refusing to pay nearly $350,000 in losses that haven’t yet been covered by policies issued by other insurers.
In a lawsuit filed May 20 in New York County Supreme Court, the policyholders allege that New York Property has withheld all but $13,000 in coverage that is available under a policy that was in effect when the “direct force of wind” from Sandy caused property and other debris to impact the Ocean Bay …
