JAMAICA, N.Y. — A leasing company that defaulted on loans it used to cover a more than $50,000 insurance premium cannot rely on a government order issued after Superstorm Sandy that extended payment deadlines for workers’ comp and disability insurance payments, a state court judge in New York has ruled.
In an order released April 2, Queens County Supreme Court Justice Sidney F. Strauss ruled that VIP Car Leasing was not among the intended beneficiaries of the Sandy-related order that New York Governor Andrew M. Cuomo issued Oct. 26, providing temporary relief to those insured under the State Insurance Fund. …
