COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio Gov. John R. Kasich has signed an energy bill that mandates stricter regulations for shale gas drilling, which the governor’s office terms “Pillar 1” of the states 21st Century energy policy. SB 315 (Ohio).
The governors office said June 11 in announcing the signing that sections of the 151-page bill applying to well drilling “moderniz[e] regulations while promoting job growth.”
Among rules now scheduled to go into effect Aug. 1 are stricter well construction and cementing rules, requirements that well drillers disclose the source of water used in the drilling process and disclose results of water …
