Chevron Fights Ecuador Environmental Claims on Several Fronts

NEW YORK - Chevron has filed a racketeering lawsuit in New York federal court against plaintiff attorneys and others in the United States and elsewhere it blames for environmental lawsuits in Ecuador courts that most recently resulted in a $9 billion judgment against the company. Chevron Corp. v. Donziger, et al., No. 11-CV-0691 (S.D. N.Y.).
Chevron filed its lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York on Feb. 1, alleging racketeering by the defendants, whose goal is to force Chevron to settle to end the foreign litigation, according to the oil company.
