NEW ORLEANS -New Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange has been appointed "Coordinating Counsel for State Interests" by the presiding judge in the Deepwater Horizon multi-district litigation. In re: Oil Spill by the Oil Rig "Deepwater Horizon" in the Gulf of Mexico, on April 20, 2010, MDL No. 2179 (E.D. La.).
Judge Carl J. Barbier of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana made the appointment in a Jan. 27 order (Pretrial Order #26), in which he also named U.S. Department of Justice Attorney R. Michael Underhill as "Coordinating Counsel for the Federal Government Interests."
