SPOKANE, Wash. — A Washington state doctor and his family have sued manufacturers of drywall used in the construction of their home, alleging that it corroded metal components throughout the residence and caused them to suffer previously unexplained illnesses for years. Schiefelbein v. Certainteed Gypsum Canada Inc., et al., No. 12-400 (E.D. Wash.).

The complaint, filed June 11 in Chelan County Superior Court and removed two days later to U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington, alleges that experts retained by the plaintiffs and defendants have confirmed that the drywall in Dr. John and Megan Schiefelbein’s home contains …
