S.C. Couple Sues U.S. Drywall Manufacturer, Says Domestic Product Emits Hydrogen Sulfide

COLUMBIA, S.C. — A South Carolina couple has sued National Gypsum Co., alleging that sulfur-reducing bacterial in domestically manufactured drywall is to blame for production of high levels of hydrogen sulfide gas that caused damage to their home. Tipton v. Lowes Home Centers Inc., et al., No. 12-1439 (D. S.C.).
The lawsuit, filed in York County Court of Common Pleas, names National Gypsum Co. and Lowes Home Centers Inc. as defendants allegedly responsible for manufacturing and distributing drywall that caused metal components within the home to corrode, a problem previously attributed to Chinese manufactured drywall.
