Judge Gives Preliminary OK to $103 Million Settlement of CertainTeed Siding Claims

PHILADELPHIA — A proposed $103 million settlement of claims involving allegedly defective fiber cement siding manufactured by CertainTeed Corp. has won preliminary approval from a federal judge.
Judge Thomas N. O’Neill Jr. U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania said in an Oct. 3 order that terms of the deal between CertainTeed and plaintiffs in the two-dozen class actions transferred to Judge O’Neill’s MDL docket since August 2011 are fair and reasonable.
The agreement was reached after a two-day mediation held in June, and the parties moved for preliminary approval of the settlement in unopposed motions filed Sept. …
