Congressmen Urge Federal Appeals Court to Uphold Ruling Against Chinese Drywall Manufacturer

NEW ORLEANS — Several members of Congress have weighed in on a Chinese drywall manufacturer’s bid to overturn a federal court decision that allowed plaintiffs to pursue property damage and personal injury claims against the foreign company in U.S. courts.

In an amici curiae brief filed May 7 in the 5th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, members of the Senate and House of Representatives argue that subjecting drywall manufacturer Taishan Gypsum Co. to jurisdiction in the United States would go a long way toward protecting consumers and correcting the so-called market distortion created by foreign entities who sell products in …
