New Participants Bring Additional Funds to $80 Million Chinese Drywall Settlement

NEW ORLEANS — Nearly three dozen companies and $2.75 million have been added to a proposed $80 million global settlement between Chinese drywall plaintiffs and the builders, installers, suppliers and insurers they sued for injuries and property damage caused by the allegedly defective import.
The additions were revealed in an Aug. 13 amendment to a settlement agreement that was filed May 18 in the federal Chinese Drywall MDL. Other changes include the removal of six defendants that have chosen not to participate in the deal, a development that plaintiffs say does not materially affect the settlement’s price tag.
