NEW ORLEANS - The Chinese Drywall MDL judge has given preliminary approval to a global settlement between Knauf Plasterboard Tianjin Co. and plaintiffs whose homes were allegedly damaged by the company's drywall. In Re: Chinese-Manufactured Drywall Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2047 (E.D. La.).
Judge Eldon E. Fallon issued an order Jan. 10, despite objections from several suppliers and the homebuilders steering committee, which had argued that the settlement agreement contained too many ambiguities that, as they currently read, prevents recovery of millions of dollars builders have already spent remediating homes that contained Knauf drywall.
