Fla. Homeowner Sues for Coverage of Drywall-Damaged $1.6 Million Home

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.-A Florida man who says his $1.6 million home was ruined by Chinese drywall has sued his homeowners' insurer after it denied coverage for drywall-related damage under a $4 million all-risk policy that was purchased in 2007. Hutchings v. American Home Assurance Co., No. 10-46498 (S.D. Fla.).
Wesley Hutchings filed a complaint Dec. 10 in Broward County Circuit Court, accusing American Home Assurance Co. of breach of contract after the carrier informed him that it would deny coverage for the drywall damage based on several exclusions contained in the policy.
