U.S. Senate Measure Could Make it Easier to Serve Drywall Claims




WASHINGTON, D.C. - Legislation introduced Aug. 6 in the U.S. Senate could make it easier for parties to serve foreign corporations in lawsuits alleging injury from defective products, including Chinese-made drywall. The Foreign Manufacturers Legal Accountability Act of 2009, S.B. 1606 (U.S. Sen.)

Senate Bill 1606, The Foreign Manufacturers Legal Accountability Act of 2009, was introduced by Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, a Democrat from Rhode Island. According to Sen. Whitehouse, the bill's aim is to "protect American businesses and consumers by bringing foreign manufacturers within the scope of the American justice system."
