HARTFORD, Conn. - Former reinsurance executives who face potential life sentences for their participation in a fraudulent scheme involving General Re Corp. and American International Group Inc. are urging a Connecticut federal judge to impose short sentences that include community service. United States of America v. Ronald E. Ferguson, et al., No. 3:06CR137 (D. Conn.).

In a Nov. 21 brief filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut, former General Re chief executive officer Ronald Ferguson argued that he should not be given the same sentence as if he had committed first-degree murder, i.e., life in prison.
