SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — A bench trial was held in Illinois federal court in a dispute between an insurance fund and a railroad over reinsurance coverage for mine subsidence damage claims.
The two-day trial began on Feb. 19 in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of Illinois before Judge Tom Schanzle-Hankins.
Illinois Mine Subsidence Insurance Fund reinsures insurers that provide mine subsidence insurance to Illinois landowners. In 2016, the Fund paid two claims of $163,600 and $71,400, respectively, for reinsurance coverage for mine subsidence damage on two residences in Macoupin County, Ill.
