Travelers Opposes Dismissal of Reinsurance Action on Personal Jurisdiction Grounds

HARTFORD, Conn. — Travelers Casualty Co. has opposed a motion to transfer its action accusing two reinsurers accused of wrongly refusing to pay $836,670 for an underlying asbestos settlement, arguing that the true locus of the case is in Connecticut because the insured risk was in that state.
In a May 25 opposition filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut, Travelers further contends that insurers are subject to personal jurisdiction in the state in which the risk they agreed to insure is located, which in this case is Connecticut.
