SAN FRANCISCO - A policyholder is appealing a California federal court's confirmation of an arbitration award requiring it to pay $540,000 in overdue workers' compensation premiums to Applied Underwriters Co.'s affiliate.

According to a Feb. 27 notice of appeal, American Etc., d/b/a Royal Laundry is asking the 6th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals to review the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California's ruling that the parties' Reinsurance Participation Agreement authorized the arbitrator to order Royal to pay money to the insurer.
