PHILADELPHIA — R&Q Reinsurance Co. says counterclaims asserted by St. Paul Fire & Marine Insurance Co. in a multi-million dollar reinsurance dispute are barred by St. Paul’s failure to provide R&Q timely notice of the asbestos claims underlying the reinsurance billings.
In its Aug. 1 answer filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, R&Q argues that the counterclaims, in which St. Paul seeks more than $9 million in damages for R&Q’s alleged breach of the facultative certificates, are barred by the terms of those contracts.
