Parties Urge N.Y. Federal Judge to Permanently Seal Confirmed Reinsurance Arbitration Award

NEW YORK — Continental Insurance Co. and Transamerica Reinsurance Co. have asked a New York federal judge to maintain a confirmed arbitration award under seal, arguing that making the award public would undermine the arbitration process and contravene the parties’ confidentiality agreement.
In an April 27 letter filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, the parties further argued that maintaining the seal will not prejudice the public because it does not concern public health or safety, nor does it involve a public official.
