Celanese Urges Texas Court to Impose Sanctions on Resolute for Frivolous Filing

DALLAS — Celanese Corp. is urging a Texas federal court to impose sanctions on Resolute Management Corp. for filing a “frivolous” motion to dismiss, arguing that Resolute’s argument was already considered and rejected in a previous case in the same district involving the same parties and issues.

But in a Feb. 8 opposition filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Resolute contends that the previous case was distinguishable because Celanese advanced an “alternate theory” of liability against Resolute.

Celanese was named as a defendant in four asbestos lawsuits pending in South Carolina state court. The …
