Judge Adopts Order Protecting Claims Information in $9.3 Million Fraud Action

NEW YORK — A New York federal magistrate judge has adopted a stipulated protective order that protects claims files and claims handling information in a lawsuit in which a reinsurer and its agent allege that they were bilked out of $9.3 million in a reinsurance scheme.
In a Jan. 4 order, Magistrate Judge James L. Cott of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York ruled that the plaintiffs’ production of the files and information does not constitute a waiver of third-party work product protection or first party coverage advice.
