Westport Opposes Michigan Millers’ Request for Stay of Discovery in Reinsurance Dispute

DETROIT — Westport Insurance Co. has opposed Michigan Millers Mutual Insurance Co.’s request for a partial stay of discovery in a reinsurance dispute, arguing that MMMIC is “merely seeking to avoid an unfavorable ruling on the issue of whether it has wrongfully taken more than $14 million in loss and claim expenses.”
In its opposition filed in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Michigan, Westport contends that the pending discovery that MMMIC seeks to stay is integral to the issues in this litigation.
