Cedent Opposes Westport’s Demand for Reinsurance Communications, Urges Michigan Court to Limit Discovery

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Michigan Millers Mutual Insurance Co. has opposed a motion to compel discovery of its communications with its reinsurance consultant, asserting that the documents are not relevant to its dispute with Westport Insurance Corp.
In its March 11 opposition filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Michigan, MMMIC asserts that Westport is taking a “scorched earth” approach in its demand for documents and is urging the court to tailor discovery to the contractual dispute between the parties.
