Westport Asks Mich. Federal Judge to Compel Discovery of Reinsurance Communications

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Westport Insurance Corp. has asked a Michigan federal judge to compel a cedent to produce communications with its reinsurance consultant, asserting they are wholly relevant to the parties’ dispute over reinsurance coverage for bad faith damages incurred by the cedent in underlying coverage litigation.
In a Feb. 25 motion filed in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Michigan, Westport asserts that Michigan Millers Mutual Insurance Co. (MMMIC) is required to produce the documents pursuant to the court’s December discovery order.
