Nationwide Asks Judge to Deny First State’s Motion for Reconsideration in Reinsurance Dispute

BOSTON — Nationwide Mutual Insurance Co. is urging a Massachusetts federal judge to deny a motion to reconsider her refusal to confirm an arbitration award in a reinsurance contract dispute, arguing that First State Insurance Co. and New England Reinsurance Co. have failed to meet the high standard for reconsideration.

Nationwide, in a Dec. 2 opposition filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts, asserts that First State and New England Re failed to “clearly establish a manifest error of law or present newly discovered evidence,” as required by Rule 60(b).
