First State Urges Mass. Federal Judge to Confirm “Final” Award in Reinsurance Dispute

BOSTON — First State Insurance Co. and New England Reinsurance Co. have asked a Massachusetts federal judge to reconsider her denial of their motion to confirm an arbitration award in a reinsurance contract dispute, arguing that the award has been “final” for more than nine months.

In a Nov. 18 motion, First State and New England Re argue that the arbitration has concluded and all issues have been resolved, therefore Judge Indira Talwani of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts has jurisdiction to confirm the award.
