N.Y. Federal Judge Denies Odyssey Re’s Request to Appoint Umpire to Oversee Retrocessional Dispute

NEW YORK — A New York federal judge has denied Odyssey Reinsurance Co.’s request to appoint an umpire to oversee a retrocessional dispute, finding that there has not been a breakdown in the appointment process that justifies court intervention.

On June 30, Judge Paul A. Crotty of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York noted that each side has nominated three qualified umpire candidates, and “there is no need to recount the difficulties or to assess blame for the delays in finalizing the appointments.”
