Cal-Regent Seeks Stay of Discovery in Commissions Action Pending Hearing on Motion to Dismiss

HARTFORD, Conn. — Cal-Regent Insurance Services Corp. has asked a Connecticut federal judge to stay discovery in an action in which Odyssey Reinsurance Co. is demanding $2.7 million in commissions allegedly due under a quota share reinsurance agreement.
In a June 18 motion filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut, Cal-Regent says requiring it to comply with Odyssey’s discovery requests before its motion to dismiss is ruled upon will cause it to incur needless costs and could potentially waste judicial resources.
